The Election Commission Nepal with support of UNDP Electoral Support Project (ESP) organized a 3 day BRIDGE Workshop on Electoral Administration and Management from March 31 to April 2, 2016. The event was formally inaugurated by the Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Ayodhee Prasad Yadav at Hotel Arniko, Dhulikhel, Kavre Nepal. The training was participated by 24 members of the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN), of which 2 were females. The objective of the training was to familiarize the new staff with the electoral systems, electoral operations and election related issues through BRIDGE module. This training was organized following BRIDGE methodology focusing on electoral administration and management module. The training was one of the customized trainings especially design for ECN staff, bringing various cross cutting issues into one platform with a view of imparting basic knowledge of contemporary issues on the subject matter that makes them competent in handling different issues of electoral administration and management.
During the inauguration speech, the Chief Commissioner Dr. Ayodhee Yadav requested the newly appointed ECN’s staff to be well informed and acquainted themselves with electoral information and knowledge. He also highlighted the importance and popularity of BRIDGE Trainings in Nepal and informed the participants that it has helped to organize international standard trainings in the country.
Speaking at the same occasion, UNDP/ESP’s Electoral Advisor and Coordinator of Regional Electoral teams Mr. Maurizio Cacucci said that UNDP has been supporting the BRIDGE Training and activities since 2008 and will continue to support in future, too. UNDP has been providing technical as well as logistical support in the BRIDGE activities in Nepal. UNDP/ESP is one of the main donors of BRIDGE activities in Nepal. The UNDP/ESP is currently funded by European Union and Norway.
The three day workshop was actively participated
by all the participants. At the end of the program the Secretary of Election
Commission of Nepal Mr. Sharada Prasad Trital gave away certificate to the
participants. BRIDGE Accrediting Facilitator Shanti Ram Bimali accredited Semi
Accredited facilitators – Mr. Bishaksen Dhakal and Mr. Babu Ram Shrestha.
