The Afghanistan Association of Electoral Officials (AAEO), with the support of The Asia Foundation, organized one four-day customized BRIDGE training for provincial heads of electoral volunteer groups from June 17-20, 2013. This training was conducted in Kabul and supported financially by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).  This four-day training was facilitated by four Afghan BRIDGE facilitators including Mr. Awal Rahman Roodwall, Mr.Abdul Jabar Sapand, Mr. Sher Khan Sahak and Ms. Hamida Omid, under the direct supervision of Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Asheq as lead facilitator. The training materials consisted of content from two BRIDGE modules, Legal Framework and Access to Electoral Processes, plus information about the Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan and the three pillars of state.  Two persons (one male and female) from each province in Afghistan participated in this training with two separate sessions conducted simultaneously.

The purpose of this training was to enhance the electoral knowledge of electoral volunteers, who will voluntarily support the IEC in future electoral events in Afghanistan.

Training was a mixture of highly interactive and participatory activities such as brain storming, group discussion, role play, debate and plenary discussion. Having completed the training, participants are fully familiarized with issues embraced by the above mentioned modules, as well as role and responsibilities of IEC. Participants have acknowledged their appreciation of training methodologies as very effective teaching tools for adult learning.
