BRIDGE Training For West African Civil Society Organisations Working In Electoral Processes, In French (Gorée Island, Senegal)

16 December 2009

This five day training was funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) to build the capacities of West African CSOs working in elections in the ECOWAS region. This second BRIDGE training organized by Gorée Institute, under the Gorée Center for Electoral Processes project, was monitored by the UNDP office in Senegal on behalf of UNDEF.

Both the participants and the monitors were impressed with the quality of the curriculum and the adult learning methodology used. One of the aspects they enjoyed the most was the constant effort of contextualization which was made throughout the training and the sharing of work experiences among participants.

The training brought together eminent members of West African Civil Society from the following countries: Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Cape-Verde, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea Conakry and Togo.

The course facilitated by Ibrahima Amadou Niang was entirely conducted in French and addressed the following:

  • Electoral systems
  • Electoral Dispute Resolution Mechanisms
  • Sustainability
  • Free and fair elections
  • History of electoral administration
  • Stakeholders
  • EMBs
  • Electoral cycle
  • Observation
  • The role of civil society in the strengthening of electoral processes in West Africa.

At the end of the course, participants were really happy about the outcomes of the sessions. They expressed the view that BRIDGE is the best curriculum in electoral administration and that they would like to attend a French Train the Facilitator course for Civil Society.
